It’s been a while since we posted in the blog and in all likelihood we won’t be blogging much here anytime soon. But please come join us in our discussion forums!

Some News

October 31st, 2008

I know this blog hasn’t been getting much love and attention lately but I hope that can change now. I am not going to promise a lot of posts but Bella and I will do our best to at least get to a few posts a week.

If you have questions about Dubai or the Emirates and pets check out our forums. We’re not that active in there but the more of you that visit the forums and help each other out the better the place will be.

For now, I just had a bath so I need to lick myself dry and get rid of all this stinky shampoo smell. I can’t believe the humans want to put that stuff on me. I guess they think it smells good but it stinks I tell you.

Dingle: Strange looking, pale coloured, spotty pup with big ears and slanty eyes. Endearingly ugly. Three-months-old

Sasha is a lovely little dark brindle dog with horrendous scars round her neck from a much too tight collar or rope. She is now on the mend and is very sweet.

Feline Friends: Cats for adoption

March 25th, 2008

Feline Friends, a voluntary organisation, offers abandoned cats and kittens. All cats are vaccinated and are neutered as breeding is not advocated. A donation to cover veterinary costs would be appreciated.

Contact: in Dubai 050-4510058, in Abu Dhabi: 050-8231569. In Al Ain: alainfelinefriends@yahoo.ca

Below are just a small selection of Feline Friends cats. For details call voice mail numbers. Being run by a group of volunteers, your calls will be answered quickly. Calls for adoption from adults only. Visit Feline Friends online at www.felinefriendsuae.com or e-mail felinefriendsdubai@yahoo.co.uk

Kit Kat is an adorable 4-month-old male kitten who has had a tough start in life. A severe injury to one of his front legs meant that it had to be amputated but he certainly doesn’t let that stop him enjoying life. He is always ready to play or cuddle, and is completely used to other cats, dogs and humans. He’s vaccinated and litter trained.

Celine is a beautiful 6-month-old female ginger cat. She adores human company and likes to be in a busy household. She is not fazed by kids or noises such as the vacuum cleaner. She’s a talkative little character who’ll provide years of companionship. She’s vaccinated, sterilised and litter trained.

Bonny and Clyde: An easygoing brother/sister pair about 7-months-old. They’ve been with Feline Friends since they were young kittens and have been overlooked many times. They are a sweet pair. Both are vaccinated, sterilised and litter trained.

Mr and Mrs: What a turn-around this pair have made! Initially extremely shy and nervous, they are now much more confident and friendly.

Snoopy: A very sweet 6-month-old female, Snoopy was already adopted from Feline Friends but unfortunately her new home didn’t work out because the cat that she went to live with decided he didn’t like her. She’s back with Feline Friends and looking for a new home without any other cats. She loves to be around humans, and is very affectionate, vaccinated, sterilised and litter trained.

Satwa: Sal is not the most strikingly beautiful cat but deserves a new home all the same. She is an adult female with lovely grey tabby markings. We are not sure of her age. She was rescued from a car park in Satwa with a huge wound on her neck where we think that someone may have tried to slit her throat. She is a little nervous initially but once she learns to trust you she is very sweet and affectionate. She’s fully vaccinated, sterilised and litter trained.

Working on some changes

March 22nd, 2008

We know this is not a particularly popular site but we do get emails most every week from people who have questions and need help with various things concerning pets, animals and the Emirates. So we thought we’d put in a little bit of effort and try to make this a better site to visit. To that end we’re installing discussion forum software here soon so anyone can register, post messages, discuss things. So stay tuned, that’ll be up within a few weeks hopefully.

Dog walking Dubai

March 4th, 2008

James sends a question to all readers of EmiratesPets. Send him an email or use our Contact Page to reply.

I’ve lived in Dubai before and I’m about to move back, but this time bringing my family. That means a wife, two cats and a flatcoated retriever! The cats will be fine, since they live indoors already and even if we do let them out in Dubai, I doubt they’ll go far. Haggis the flatcoat will have more adaptation to do, and us with him.
We’re well aware that summer walks will have to be before sunrise or after sunset, but the question is where? Unless a true dog park has suddenly sprung up (perhaps someone could write to HH?), we assume we’ll have to go into the desert, away from the main roads and any habitation. Are there any groups of dog owners who go out together, and any regular haunts where off-lead runs are either tolerated or far enough from any people so as not to cause any trouble?
And finally, how seriously is the new muzzle law being taken? We’re likely to end up in Arabian Ranches or Mirdiff, and our assumption is that Mirdiff will be more restrictive.

Many thanks for all info,

Haggis the flatcoat and family
