Kit Kat is an adorable 4-month-old male kitten who has had a tough start in life. A severe injury to one of his front legs meant that it had to be amputated but he certainly doesn’t let that stop him enjoying life. He is always ready to play or cuddle, and is completely used to other cats, dogs and humans. He’s vaccinated and litter trained.
Celine is a beautiful 6-month-old female ginger cat. She adores human company and likes to be in a busy household. She is not fazed by kids or noises such as the vacuum cleaner. She’s a talkative little character who’ll provide years of companionship. She’s vaccinated, sterilised and litter trained.
Bonny and Clyde: An easygoing brother/sister pair about 7-months-old. They’ve been with Feline Friends since they were young kittens and have been overlooked many times. They are a sweet pair. Both are vaccinated, sterilised and litter trained.
Mr and Mrs: What a turn-around this pair have made! Initially extremely shy and nervous, they are now much more confident and friendly.
Snoopy: A very sweet 6-month-old female, Snoopy was already adopted from Feline Friends but unfortunately her new home didn’t work out because the cat that she went to live with decided he didn’t like her. She’s back with Feline Friends and looking for a new home without any other cats. She loves to be around humans, and is very affectionate, vaccinated, sterilised and litter trained.
Satwa: Sal is not the most strikingly beautiful cat but deserves a new home all the same. She is an adult female with lovely grey tabby markings. We are not sure of her age. She was rescued from a car park in Satwa with a huge wound on her neck where we think that someone may have tried to slit her throat. She is a little nervous initially but once she learns to trust you she is very sweet and affectionate. She’s fully vaccinated, sterilised and litter trained.

Working on some changes
We know this is not a particularly popular site but we do get emails most every week from people who have questions and need help with various things concerning pets, animals and the Emirates. So we thought we’d put in a little bit of effort and try to make this a better site to visit. To that end we’re installing discussion forum software here soon so anyone can register, post messages, discuss things. So stay tuned, that’ll be up within a few weeks hopefully.

Dog walking Dubai
James sends a question to all readers of EmiratesPets. Send him an email or use our Contact Page to reply.
I’ve lived in Dubai before and I’m about to move back, but this time bringing my family. That means a wife, two cats and a flatcoated retriever! The cats will be fine, since they live indoors already and even if we do let them out in Dubai, I doubt they’ll go far. Haggis the flatcoat will have more adaptation to do, and us with him.
We’re well aware that summer walks will have to be before sunrise or after sunset, but the question is where? Unless a true dog park has suddenly sprung up (perhaps someone could write to HH?), we assume we’ll have to go into the desert, away from the main roads and any habitation. Are there any groups of dog owners who go out together, and any regular haunts where off-lead runs are either tolerated or far enough from any people so as not to cause any trouble?
And finally, how seriously is the new muzzle law being taken? We’re likely to end up in Arabian Ranches or Mirdiff, and our assumption is that Mirdiff will be more restrictive.
Many thanks for all info,
Haggis the flatcoat and family

My cat Huxley - awblogger - @ 20six.co.uk
My cat Huxley - awblogger - @ 20six.co.uk: “For the past few days, J and I have been desperately trying to rehome our cat. He’s an outdoor cat that has to stay in because he doesn’t play well with others. He’s a aggressive and one of my neighbors has finally had enough. Apparently, my cat has been bullying his cat for at least 6 months. Said neighbor did not bother to tell me until said neighbor was at his wits end.
Anyway, J spent all day yesterday ‘cat proofing’ our garden. The cat can’t get out. So, J and I didn’t sleep. We listened to the cat howling for hours. Why do we love this monstrous being? Does he really want to be with us? My answer is simply ‘No.’ He’d rather be outside brutalizing other innocent animals. I talked to the vet. He basically said, ‘Put him down.’ Put him down. Something I would never consider back home. At home, I would bring him to a nice no-kill shelter. I would feel okay about giving him to people who would take care of him. Here in the UAE my choices are: 1. Death 2. Abandon him somewhere 3. Death 4. Adoption 5. Death.
So, J and I posted an ad for Huxley on a few websites. We received a response today. I cried. Am I a horrible person that I’m giving away my pet? Anyway, J and I sat down and made a list of questions that we intended to ask the potential new owner. When we were ready to make the call, J went to one phone and I to another. I was sitting in front of a computer, so I googled the email address of the respondent. Oh my goodness! There were several sites with this person’s email. Apparently, the respondent is a RARE ANIMAL TRADER. The sites we found mentioned that he was a crook and shouldn’t be trusted.
I was about to give away my cat as snake food. What would this person do with him?
The local vet has also been quite helpful and gave us tons of advice. Feline Friends Dubai has been VERY helpful and might actually have our solution. They’re helping us locate a place where Huxley will be happy and cared for.
It’s sad and depressing, but the cat just does not want to be inside. His natural desire to be outside along with his aggression, just do not make him the ideal pet.
I’m exhausted mentally and physically. I’m drained because I haven’t slept well in about two weeks (is this what an infant’s like?). Also, I just keep thinking that I’m a horrible pet-owner because I’m getting rid of my pet rather than dealing with it. After all, I wouldn’t be able to do this with a dog or child (!).
Oh boy. “
